M.I.A

Ever been Proud of someone and jealous of them at the same time. Well I guess I am feeling that way these days. Went for a concert of a fellow Sri Lankan by the name of M.I.A a.k.a Maya Arulpragasam. She was AWESOME!. Made a stupid comment to her after the concert. Told her that she should do more for Sri Lanka through her lyrics and talk about Jaffna and its people. I am Tamil too, but what I did not know was the pain that she went through to get there. Her father was a founding member of PLOTE ( a military outfit in Sri Lanka fighting the goverment.) She had to move to England when she was only 10 and had to work her ass off to get to where she is now. Her music is absolutely amazing. You can visit her at http://www.miauk.com. I guess the reason why I am proud of her is because she has put Sri Lanka on the map as far as music is concerned. She is also bringing more attention to the Lankan Civil War and also the journey she has gone through to get to where she is now. AMAZING indeed and I hope one day she writes a book to allow people to see how previliged some of us really are in life. Reason why I am jealous? Well I have always wanted to be politically involved, know what is going on in the world, help change the world, do something useful. Well I am a Documentum Consultant in Austin, TX working with a major IT company on a big project, but just dont seem satisfied at all. And what Maya is doing is what I wish I could be doing. Well not singing but making a difference in this world. Making a change somehow, letting a meaningful life, passing a message. She is doing it and I aint. I guess as a 22 year old, I am politically frustrated and that is fine. But I feel I have to do something for my country before I die. I guess after I pay off some debt that I owe my parents for them having to work hard to send me to the USA to study, than I can concentrate on my personal ambitions of being a good leader.
