A Comparison: AR Rahman’s Nahin Samne vs Desree’s Kissing You
Note: I do not have a degree in Music or its history. All i know is that it helps me alot in everyday life and i change the the type of music i listen to the mood i am in or to the mood i want to be in, i.e. in the mornings i like to listen to summer of ’69 everyday to pump me up or listen to a slow tamil song while abt to hit the beds … So before reading the comparison, i do admit that at times my taste does suck but hey i dont mind living with it …
Ok Now, Love these two songs. Why? Well because both are really well composed love/romantic songs and very much similar in certain ways. For one both songs pick up a little bit right before the end and fade away slowly with a certain “nice” feeling.
Of course Nahin Samne is in Hindi and Kissing You is in English, but language should not be a barrier when listening to music {Personal Opinion}. And I certainly dont understand Hindi but after reading the lyrics and its translations, was quite amazed.
Kissing You has the typical Western opera background to it – Great Voice, Alot of Piano and minimum words. Nahin Samne has the background of tabla, sitar and the great voice of Hariharan. Wouldnt say its the best classical Indian music but AR Rahman is a magician at bringing the Western and Eastern music worlds together.
I guess the movies also play a relevant part in these songs. Taal and Romeo & Juliet are both love stories – one’s a great ender and the other is the greatest love tragerdy known to mankind. The lyrics are quite similar yet totally different – a paradox i am not quite eloquent or articulate enough to explain in words but human enough to understand when listening to both songs.
I guess the greatest thing about both these songs are that they are very soothing. Cant pick right now which one I would want to hear more, so going to add both to a play list and hear them again one after the other till i fall asleep. Guessing after round one or two i might be in dream land.
Anyways just thought i should write a post on these songs since i have been practically listening to them for the past few weeks on a continuous basis.
Cheers,
