A New Small Side Project

Well thanx to the advice from a talented colleague of mine from work, I have decided to start on a small side project – Work on my own blogging site and move all different categories of blogs that i have to that particular site {Not that i have alot now anyways :) }. I have decided to start with the “Requirements Phase” – What the hell do I want other than a blog that can allow for multiple categories of content? Do I need a damn openCMS running in the back that does much cooler stuff? Wait hold a second – Should my website be able to send information to NASA? So, I guess i better work on the requirements eh – before I get ahead of myself.

Anyways looking at different options of the blogging API world{weblog engines}. Anyone has any recommendations please post it here. Thank You Already.

Any recommendations from your past projects would help as well folks.

Anyways thought since my colleague did me a favor might as well do him one too. Rajiv – your new website {unless of course you do not want me to do this, please let me know} is being advertised officially on my blog – Everyone please visit www.thousandtyone.com/blog – This guy has brains so you are bound to find something useful for yourself.

Cheers,

  1. Welcome to the world of freaks who spend money to blog :)

As far as the blogging API is concerned consider moving to the DotNet World… You could choose from a host of Blogging Engines that are free and open source (.Text / DasBlog / Community Server 2.0)

If it’s just blogging you’re interested in I recommend DasBlog (I use this). Community Server is slightly expensive in terms of server requirements but has features beyond blogging.

If you need help with any of these engines or hosting providers that support these give me a shout :)

Are you kidding? I look at my Referrals like a hawk, And then I pay they guys referring me ridiculously on a per visitor basis!

(Ok, the paying part was a joke :) but thanks for plugging the blog)

  2. Ah trying to covert an aethist now are we ..LOL …yes actually very much thought about it since I havent worked on the .NET platform since school days {some time ago basically}. It would be nice to know all sides of the IT Religion

  3. Might as well get you “converted” you before you change your mind :)

    Order of installation:

    1. IIS is on your Windows XP Cd. (Add / Remove Programs)

    2. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd-aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en
(That’s the DotNet 2.0 runtime installer)

    3. http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=127624
    (that’s the DasBlog installer.)

I’m sure you’ll be blogging on your Dev machine in No time :)

Then you can decide if you like it. If you do, a simple xcopy deploy will move you live.

    I’m sure You’ll love DotNet! :)
